Weather Related Messages

Weather conditions occur during the winter months that could result in a school closure or delayed start. If inclement weather occurs, the District will make the official decision concerning closing or delaying the start of school based on road conditions. School will either be delayed or canceled if students and staff cannot safely travel on the roadways.

When it becomes necessary to open late, to release students early, or to cancel school, district officials will attempt to notify parents and staff by posting a message on the district website, the GISD Facebook page, and the following radio and television stations:

KBUK-La Grange

We will also make an automated call through our online emergency notification system, School Messenger. In order to ensure that you receive all automated messages, please update your contact information with the campus attendance office.

Thank a School Board Member

January is School Board Recognition Month and Giddings ISD will join other districts across the state to thank these local leaders for their dedication and willingness to serve as advocates for our children and public schools. As elected officials, they serve as the voice of our community, serving first and foremost in the best interest of the children in Giddings ISD.

Even though we are making a special effort in January to show appreciation to our board members, we realize their many contributions reflect a year-round commitment. They generously give of themselves to ensure that decisions directly affecting our local schools are made by representatives of this community, people who are close to our schools and know our teachers, parents, and students.

Board members shoulder critical responsibilities and often make difficult choices. Their ultimate goal is always focused on the future success of the children in our district. It’s more important than ever before that the public supports our schools so that today’s students are prepared to be productive citizens and the leaders of tomorrow. Our board members provide vision and leadership in their roles as advocates, and they will continue to stand up for public education and guard against anything that takes away from our children.
