Giddings ISD is proud to announce that Dylan Deshetler of Giddings High School has been named a Commended Student in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2027 competition by taking the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying TEST (PSAT/NMSQT).
This places Dylan in the top 3%-4% of High School Students throughout the Nation. Students like Dylan represent a valuable national resource and recognizing his academic development which can be attributed to his parents, teachers, and the community of Giddings is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope this recognition will broaden Dylan's educational opportunities and encourage him as he continues to pursue academic success.

Picture Day for 9th-11th graders are next Thursday, September 3rd. Paper order forms went home with students last week or you can purchase online! Retakes for grades 9th-12th grade will be November 5th.

The GHS Interact Club received the award for Outstanding Youth Organization of the Year, nominated and selected by the Giddings Chamber of Commerce. As a sub-sect of the Rotary Club, Interact focuses on creating young leaders who embody the motto “Service above Self”, recruiting those who dedicate time to volunteering within their community. The club is honored to have received the prestigious award along with recognition from Texas Senator John Cornyn and State Representatives Stan Gerdes and Michael McCaul regarding the service efforts of its members. The award was accepted by outgoing senior officers for the 2025-2026 school year: Hunter Jacobs (President), Sharron Adair (Treasurer), and Ayla Droegemueller (Secretary). Not pictured is Gunnar Fromme (Community Liaison).

⏰ Remember we added 5 minutes to the end of our school day, so our school day ends at 3:40 pm now.
📱 Students check your portal so you know where to report for your first period. If you don't know your first period we have them posted for you in Buff Alley. Your first period teacher will give you your schedule for the rest of the day.
🚌 Safety is always a very important priority for us. Parents, guardians, and students please remember to enter and exit with caution when driving on campus.
👕 Remember our GHS dress code, this will be monitored and enforced starting day one (8/11/2026).
📵 Just a reminder that HB 1481 (prohibited personal telecommunication devices) is still in effect at all Texas schools. Just like last year students remember to have your devices turned off, put away, and out of sight before you enter the building. Devices must remain off and out of sight until you leave at the end of our school day.

2026-2027 Schedules will be ready for pickup next Wednesday, August 5th between 8:00am and 1:00pm. Freshman will receive their schedule on August 4th at Freshman orientation but if you are unable to attend they will be available on the 5th.
As we prepare to welcome students back for the new school year, we'd like to share a few important schedule updates for Giddings High School.
• School Day Extension: The school day has been extended by 5 minutes. Students will now be dismissed at 3:40 PM instead of 3:35 PM.
• Buff Time: Buff Time has been moved from 3rd period to 2nd period.
• Official Attendance (ADA): Daily attendance (ADA) will now be taken at 10:00 AM during 3rd period, rather than at 9:30 AM during 2nd period.
The updated bell schedule is attached for your reference.
As a reminder, GHS doors open each morning at 7:30 AM.
We appreciate your support and look forward to a successful 2026–2027 school year!

Freshman Orientation for all 2026-27 incoming 9th graders will be held August 4th at 6:15pm in the GHS Cafeteria.
The high school office will be closed from July 1st through July 19th. Summer office hours will resume on July 20th.
Buff Nation is excited to introduce Lacy Lara as the new Giddings High School cheer coach. Lacy is already very familiar GHS and Buff nation. Coach Lara is also our AP/AD secretary. She will be getting started right away working with the cheer team this summer and then heading to cheer camp with them. Please help us welcome Coach Lara to her new role and. We are looking forward to the 26-27 Cheer season and school year!
