Last week, Mrs. Taylor's environmental science students created volcano projects for her class. Science students had to distinguish the location, type, and relative motion of convergent, divergent, and transform plate boundaries using evidence from the distribution of earthquakes and volcanoes. Students were able to use project based learning to show how plate boundaries move and when a certain plate boundary (convergent) moves, it can cause the formation of a volcano, mountains, and/or trenches. In addition, they had to explain how plate tectonics accounts for geologic processes, including sea floor spreading and subduction.
