All GISD Athletic events (practices and games) have been cancelled for today, Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023.
Additional information on any rescheduled games will be forthcoming.
Due to the possibility of worsening weather conditions throughout the day, and out of an abundance of caution, GISD administration officials have decided to cancel all classes for today, Tuesday, January 31st. We will continue to monitor the weather conditions and provide an update on Wednesday classes by this evening. Be safe, and stay warm.
After assessing the current weather conditions, it is out of an abundance of caution that GISD administration officials have decided to delay the start of school by 2 hours tomorrow, Tuesday, January 31st.
Although conditions appear to be favorable for the delay, administration officials will continue to monitor the situation throughout the night. Should it become necessary to cancel classes for Tuesday, the announcement will be made no later than 7am on Tuesday.
GISD administrators are keeping a close eye on the weather and road conditions for tonight and tomorrow. We will notify parents and staff ASAP if changes in our schedule are necessary for tomorrow.
GHS First Team All-District Offensive Guard, Jusiah Sampleton, will have his official signing day on February 9th at 3pm in the high school cafetorium. His signing is open to the public as he signs his commitment letter to play football next year.

The JV tennis team competed in Navasota Wednesday to kick off the start of their season. The Girls Doubles team of Brooklyn Mersiovsky and Kamryn Schmidt placed 3rd. The Boys Doubles team of Jarod Sheelar and Caleb Bolt placed 3rd as well. Great first tournament for all participants!

GHS Black History Club will be selling tickets for their yearly fundraiser. This year their meal will be cooked by the GHS BBQ team. The meal will be served on Wednesday, February 15th at 4pm in the GHS cafetorium. Contact David McDowell for meal ticket information.

The GHS Chess Club is sponsoring a pre-concert meal tomorrow (Tuesday, 12/13) before the GISD Band Concert. The pulled-pork sandwich meal includes chips, onions/pickles, Blue Bell ice cream, BBQ sauce, and a drink (water or soda). The cost is $10 and it will be served from 4:30pm until 6:30pm.
Giddings High School students competed at the Brazos High School UIL Speech and Debate competition in Wallis, TX on Saturday, Dec. 3. The following students placed at the event: Iliana Zavala—1st place in Poetry, Caitlyn Grange—2nd place in Persuasive Extemp, and Jennifer Rodriguez—3rd place in Persuasive Extemp. Congratulations!

The GMS Girls Basketball program is holding a ChristmasToy Drive on Monday, Dec. 12. Attendees for the games against Smithville are asked to bring a small unwrapped toy for a boy or girl between the ages of 3 and 10 years old. The toy (or a monetary donation toward the purchase of toys) will be accepted as your admission fee. Toy donations will benefit Giddings Elementary students in need.
